Pretoria - With the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Sport Awards happening this weekend, the public is being reminded to vote in the “People’s Choice Award”.
“The People’s Choice Award is very interesting because it reveals who has won the public’s heart, and you cannot fool South Africans because they love their sport and understand it very well,” said Minister Fikile Mbalula.
The annual awards will take place on Sunday in Mangaung in the Free State.
Nominees in the category are:
A) Cricketer AB de Viliers,
B) Road racing cyclist Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio,
C) Swimmer Chad le Clos
D) Wheelchair tennis player Lucas Sithole and
E) Track and field sprinter Wayde van Niekerk.
The public can vote for their favourite nominee by SMSing the letter of their choice to 45210. Each SMS costs R1.
The awards will be broadcast live on SABC 1 and SuperSport 4 at 8pm. A fan park at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium will ensure that the public participate in the festivities of the awards.
