Pretoria - The Presidency says government will engage the legal representatives of the claimants, who were affected by the incidents of the 2012 Marikana tragedy, to expedite the processing of claims.
The Presidency on Tuesday said government is still seized with preparations toward developing the alternative dispute resolution process announced by President Jacob Zuma last month in addressing the consequences of the tragedy.
“Last month President Zuma announced the alternative mechanism to expedite the processing of claims arising from the incidents in Marikana both leading up to and on 16 August 2012.
“Government is aware of the anxiety of the families and will engage the legal representatives of claimants in due course to take this process forward,” the high office said.
President Zuma announced that a judge, assisted by experts, would lead the process. - SAnews.gov.za
