Pretoria - The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) has congratulated Brian Molefe on his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Eskom.

SACCI said during Molefe’s short tenure as acting Chief Executive Officer, he had made strides to stabilise the power grid and had facilitated the improvement in maintenance of the system.

“However, the situation remains under considerable strain and a great deal still has to done to ensure the future sustainability and quality of supply so badly needed for South African economic growth which will result in job creation, poverty alleviation and reduction of inequality,” said SACCI President  Vusi Khumalo.

Molefe was seconded from Transnet to Eskom in mid-April.

On Friday, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown welcomed the appointment of three executives aimed at stabilising Eskom.

“Cabinet this week approved the appointments of Dr Ben Ngubane as Chairperson of Eskom’s Board, Brian Molefe as Chief Executive and Anoj Singh as Chief Financial Officer of the State-Owned Company (SOE). I welcome these appointments and they are part of my ongoing interventions to stabilise Eskom,” she said on Friday. – SAnews.gov.za
