Pretoria - Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister, Obed Bapela, will today host a Cultural Day in Johannesburg to encourage South Africans to take pride in their diverse cultures.
The celebration is about the preservation, protection and promotion of traditional practices and pride in the Indigenous African way of life.
The celebration forms part of the Heritage Month activities and will be held under the theme "Our Tradition - Our Pride" Siyazigabisa nga masiko wethu - Reya ikgantsha ka meetlo ya Rona”.
The department said its role was to stabilise the Indigenous African and Khoi-San leadership and its institutions from royal families, to communities who still firmly believe in the traditional, cultural linguistic and spiritual way of life.
“The African way of life was destroyed by the apartheid colonialism and the focus is on the sector becoming modernised, developmental and co-existing within a republican democratic and constitutional system of governance," said the Deputy Minister Bapela. - SAnews.gov.za
