Pretoria - Communications Deputy Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams says it is time for women to stand united and empower each other.
Speaking to female students at the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria West Campus on Friday, during the Campus Women Dialogue she held in celebration of Women’s Month, the Deputy Minister said women should challenge the current status quo to succeed in holding higher positions in the workplace.
“Women were given power at birth. God created us for a purpose, to give direction,” said the Deputy Minister.
She called on women to take part in government programmes and influence the drafting of policies.
Malebo Dimati, 22, was among the students who attended the dialogue. She said the dialogue motivated her to never be afraid to challenge men in the work environment. She said this will help her in her future career.
Dimati is a second year student enrolled for Administrative Management at TUT.
Lulama Nare of the Gender Commission was among the panellists who addressed students on issues of gender discrimination at the workplace, sexual harassment and inequality.
Nare said it is sad that although government is trying its best to fight inequality, the private sector is not doing much to help the system. - SAnews.gov.za
