Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma has expressed condolences on the sad passing of the former South African National Cricket Captain Clive Rice, saying it’s a sad loss to the nation and the international cricket community at large.

Rice‚ who just turned 66‚ had been battling brain cancer.

Rice played cricket for South Africa and ended his first class career with a batting average of 40.95 and a bowling average of 22.49.

"The whole nation mourns this prolific and an all-rounder of our cricket, whose talent has put South Africa on the world stage.

“It is indeed a sad loss to the nation and the international cricket community at large. We wish to convey, on behalf of government and the entire nation, our deepest condolences to his family, friends and cricketers locally and across the globe. May his soul rest in peace," said President Zuma.
