Friday, June 19, 2015

Pretoria - The Eastern Cape Legislature will be hosting their 2015 Youth Parliament this morning.

To be attended by young people from across the Eastern Cape, the session, which will held at the Raymond Mhlaba Chamber, will debate issues pertinent to them under the theme “Empowering Young People towards sustainable youth development”.

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela, is set to address the session.

Youth Parliament is part of the countrywide youth month activities which aims to ensure that South African youth are provided an opportunity to use their voices to deepen democracy.

By participating in law-making, young people will be able to determine the future that they desire for a better South Africa, says the Presidency.

“The Youth Parliament will also provide young people a platform to exercise their leadership as envisaged by the National Development Plan and National Youth Policy 2020.”

This year’s Youth Month is commemorated under the theme "Youth moving South Africa forward".

The month has seen the Deputy Minister Manamela engaging with young people through various public participation programmes.

Through such engagements young people have assured government of their willingness to take South Africa forward and have proclaimed their hope for a better South Africa and committed to play their part in bringing it to fruition. - SAnews.gov.za
