Pretoria-Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko will on Tuesday brief the Police Portfolio Committee about the suspension of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) head, Robert McBride and the related disciplinary processes.
Temba Gubula from the Parliamentary Communication Services said this follows an invitation from the Portfolio Committee this week to the Minister to brief the committee on the matter. McBride was suspended following his handling of a report which implicated former Hawks boss Anwa Dramat to illegal rendetions of Zimbabweans. Committee Chairperson, Francois Beukman, has meanwhile welcomed Minister Nhleko’s prompt response.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to get a status update on the suspension of the IPID head and the subsequent processes to ensure stability in the leadership of the IPID. Beukman said IPID played a pivotal role in investigating criminal conduct by the South African Police Service members and the Municipal Police Service. As such, he said, committee members wanted assurances from the minister that proper measures were in place for the directorate to continue with its work unhindered.-SAnews.gov.za
