Pretoria - Eastern Cape Education MEC Mandla Makupula has confirmed that it’s all systems go in preparation for the 91 247 candidates to write their National Senior Certificate (NSC) final examinations.
The Grade 12 final examinations start on Monday, 20 October and end on 28 November.
MEC Makupula said of the 91 247-strong class of 2014, 21 376 will write their examinations as private candidates while 69 745 are full-time learners.
Currently, there are 1 431 public and independent examination centres across the province.
These public examination centres include 866 public schools, 155 provincial established centres, 355 adult education and training (AET) centres and 13 centres under Correctional Services that are meant to accommodate these candidates.
Apart from the public independent centres are 42 Independent Examination Centres that have been established to accommodate candidates from this category.
MEC Makupula said the department is ready to conduct yet another round of error free exams due to disciplined educators and learners.
Once all the learners have finished writing their final examinations, all the papers will be delivered to the 15 provincial marking centres that are scheduled to start marking from 1 December until 13 December.
The department has made a provision of 3 790 markers to ensure that marking starts in earnest in all the centres. Each centre will be managed by its Centre Manager.
This year, learners will start their final examinations with Computer Applications Technology (CAT) and to conclude with Agricultural Technology, Nautical Science and Dance Studies. – SAnews.gov.za
