Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the Secretary of Parliament, Michael Coetzee.

Parliament appointed Coetzee as Secretary to Parliament, the institution’s top official and its accounting officer, in November 2012.

He died on Friday, after a long battle with cancer.

“Mr Coetzee epitomised humility, dedication and service to the people in all the tasks he had been given as an activist and also as a professional. He was diligent to his work as Secretary of Parliament until his last days,” said President Zuma on Sunday.

He added that Coetzee will be “dearly remembered for his dedication to the struggle for liberation and also to making South Africa a better place for all”.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace," said President Zuma.
