Beijing - China and India have voiced their common aspiration for maintaining peace and stability in their common border areas.
The pledge was made by senior officials of the two countries' foreign ministries during the 4th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Co-ordination on China-India Border Affairs. The two-day meeting in Beijing ended on Monday.
The meeting was conducted in a candid and pragmatic atmosphere, according to a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
It added that the two sides reviewed recent developments in China-India border areas, expressed satisfaction with the overall situation in these areas and reiterated that maintaining peace and stability there meets the fundamental interests of both countries.
During the meeting, China and India committed to take concrete measures to jointly safeguard border peace and tranquility. - SAnews.gov.za-NNN-Xinhua
