Johannesburg - The new Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system has recorded an impressive average of 16 000 commuters daily.

Statistics released by the City of Joburg on the BRT's first 10 days indicate that Thokoza Park in Soweto is the busiest station, especially in the mornings, with approximately 1 900 commuters.

The second busiest station is Diepkloof Station with about 1 400 commuters recorded every morning.

In the afternoons, the data indicates that the two busiest stations are the Art Gallery Station with an average of 1 300 commuters, and the Carlton and Library Gardens Stations with more than 1 120 commuters each.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transportation, Rehana Moosajee, said the BRT system was currently in a testing phase, which provided the ideal opportunity to iron out teething problems.

"We need commuters to tell us how and where we can improve, based on their first-hand experiences of using Rea Vaya," explained Moosajee.

Commuters are invited to SMS their comments to 33422. An SMS will cost R1.50. Information on the feedback campaign will also be available on www.reavaya.org.za.

By participating in the campaign, which will run until the end of the month, commuters stand a chance to win R500 in cash.
