Pretoria - South Africa has expressed its commitment to continue working closely with Guinea’s new administration to enhance bilateral relations.

This comes after the re-election of President Alpha Condé, following the presidential elections last month.

Condé won 57.87% of the vote in the first round of presidential elections held on October 11.

This is his second term as president of the West African nation.

President Jacob Zuma has congratulated President Condé and the people of Guinea for conducting a peaceful, transparent, credible, free and fair election.

The elections were endorsed by the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States election observer teams.

President Zuma also expressed his commitment to continue working closely with President Condé to enhance the good bilateral relations that exist between the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Guinea, paying particular focus on the strengthening of economic cooperation.

South Africa enjoys a long-standing relationship with Guinea, solidified by the unconditional support extended to the people of South Africa during the time of the struggle against apartheid.

To date, about eight agreements have been signed by the two countries, including the Protocol on Diplomatic Consultations, Trade, Visa Waiver (for diplomatic and official passport holders) and Education. - SAnews.gov.za
