Bhisho - Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet has called for team spirit, diligence, openness and honesty among the employees in her office.

On Thursday, Ms Kiviet was welcomed with a standing ovation by the 300 staff members who will work at the Office of the Premier during her tenure.

"As the face of the provincial government, the Office of the Premier has to lead by example in all it does. I have not seen any stones of wrong doing thrown at this office in the past and I do not intend seeing that happening now," she said.

Ms Kiviet encouraged her staff members to conduct themselves in a manner that will set a positive example for other government departments, municipalities and public entities.

She said this would help change how the province was perceived.

Premier Kiviet also praised her predecessor Mbulelo Sogoni for his remarkable work in the past eight months. "You stood up to the challenge and provided the leadership that was required of you with excellence."

Turning to her own responsibilities, Ms Kiviet promised to do her best to create space where employees can excel in their work.
