Pretoria - Under the new leadership of Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa, Tshwane ratepayers can expect nothing but the best service delivery, he promised residents today.

He warned that under his authority, inefficiency would not be tolerated and that those that are found to be inefficient would be dealt with accordingly following due processes.

Addressing the National Press Club, Ramokgopa said he would first ensure that the City's finances are in a healthy state.

Also as priority, he promised to look at the City's billing system that has for some been a problem for some residents.

"We intend to inspire public confidence in the manner in which we run the city. We will stop at nothing [to do that]," he said.

In terms of service delivery, Ramokgopa promised to look at improving turnaround times in fixing faulty traffic lights and patching of potholes. "I'm not running a government, I'm running a business," he said.

In his acceptance speech on Tuesday, Ramokgopa put emphasis on improving service delivery and the lives of the people.

"The basic needs of our people such as access to clean potable water, electricity, health care, education, social security, safety and other needs must be satisfied.

"Our task as the leadership is to ensure that Tshwane is a city at work, that it works in the interests of its people, and that the millions of visitors will revel in our hospitality [and] the services which we provide," he said.

Referring to cases of corruption and suspensions, Ramokgopa said cases would be dealt with speedily, adding that he would ensure the public views the municipality as corruption free.

He said he has a responsibility to govern the City.
