Pretoria - Former Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant General Richard Mdluli has been interdicted from executing duties as a policeman.

North Gauteng High Court Judge Ephraim Makgoba made the ruling on Wednesday after an application was brought by Freedom Under Law (FUL) to prevent Mdluli from performing his official duties.

In the urgent application, FUL asked for Mdluli's immediate suspension and removal from all police activities pending the outcome of an application to reinstate criminal charges and disciplinary procedures against him.

Mdluli was earlier suspended in response to the serious allegations that had emerged from an inquest.
