Mthatha - Eskom has reassured residents in the Eastern Cape that technicians have been on high alert responding to all power interruptions caused by bad weather conditions.

Gale force winds, accompanied by storms since Thursday, have disrupted the electricity supply in various parts of the province.

Areas affected include Butterworth, Idutywa, Elliot, and Mthatha, Qumbu, Tsolo and Libode among others.

Gale force winds continue to blow throughout the province and snow warnings in the former Transkei area have been issued.

Eskom has appealed to consumers to be patient. "We are aware of the outages and we are working as speedily as we can to restore supply to customers.

"We further urge customers to treat all electrical appliances as live during power outages because electricity can be restored at anytime," Eskom said.
