Drug mule arrested in Bangkok

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Pretoria - A South African woman has been arrested in Bangkok for attempting to smuggle two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, also known as "ice".

Acting on a tip-off, media reports indicate that 31-year-old Adelina Ononiwu was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The drugs, with the street value of about R660 000, were in three bags hidden in a secret compartment in her luggage.

Ononiwu is said to have arrived in Bangkok from the Kenyan capital Nairobi and was waiting for a connecting flight to Cambodia.

This arrest comes days after another convicted South African drug mule, Nolubabalo Nobanda, was sentenced to a 15-year jail term. She was arrested in December 2011 after she was found with cocaine in her dreadlocks.
