Motor vehicle sales up by 17.2%

Pretoria - Motor trade sales grew by 17.2% year-on-year in June 2011, said Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).

According to Stats SA, the highest annual growth rate was recorded for fuel sales followed by new vehicle and used vehicle sales.

For the second quarter of 2011, motor trade sales increased by 13%. Contributors to the 13% increase were fuel sales and new vehicle sales.

"In June 2011, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 2.6% month-on-month, following month-on-month changes of 0.8% in May 2011 and 1.7% in April 2011," said Stats SA.
