Sunday, April 3, 2011

Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs has called for cooperation from those Zimbabwean nationals who need to provide further information with regards to their applications to have their stay in South Africa regularised.

The department said it would be contacting those from whom further information is needed through sms from 4 April.

The department is currently sorting the 275 762 applications it received from Zimbabwean nationals and has found that 116 960 applications were incomplete.

This includes applications from 28 044 applicants who had applied for Zimbabwean passports, 15 066 who had applied using other Zimbabwean documentation, 17 596 who had applied with no supporting documents and 56 254 whose fingerprints were required.

From 4 April the department will send text messages to those who need to provide the relevant information in order to have their applications finalised.

"We therefore appeal to Zimbabwean nationals to respond timeously to sms requests to provide further information to enable the department to finalise their applications as soon as possible," it said.

The department intends finalising the process of documenting Zimbabwean nationals by the end of July 2011.

So far 119 009 application have been adjudicated. The department is also currently validating and confirming 6243 amnesty applications. - BuaNews
