Ghana to face Nigeria in CHAN semi-final

Monday, January 27, 2014

Pretoria - The Black Stars of Ghana edged the DRC with a 1-0 victory, which qualifies them for the semi-final of the 2014 CHAN against Stephen Keshi’s boys, the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Nigerians, who have so far conceded more than five goals in the tournament, completed a great comeback from 3-0 down to beat Morocco 4-3 in the quarter-final match played at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

A successful penalty kick from Kwabena Adusei was all the Black Stars needed to knock out a formidable DRC side.

On Saturday, the Warriors of Zimbabwe stunned tournament favourites Mali 2-1 in a captivating quarter-final match played at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.

The West Africans, who took to the pitch having won two and drawn their third group stage matches, were outdone by a resolute Warriors team that worked their socks off and were full value for their win.

The Warriors semi-final opponents Libya beat Gabon 4-2 on penalties to reach the semi-finals after the lacklustre encounter had finished 1-1 after extra time at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Zimbabwe will face Libya at Free State Stadium in Mangaung on Wednesday at 5pm, while the two West African football giants, Ghana and Nigeria, will battle it out at the same venue at 8:30 pm. - SAnews.gov.za
