Pretoria - Ethiopia and Congo will later this afternoon battle it out to avoid an early exit of the 2014 CHAN tournament at the Free State stadium in Mangaung at 8pm.
The two national teams, which lost their Group C opening matches 2-1 and 2-nil, respectively, know very well that another defeat will see them waving goodbye to a place in the quarter-finals.
In the first Group C match, Libya, which is leading the group with three points and two goals, will face the Black stars of Ghana, which are on the second spot with three points and one goal.
The match will be the launch pad between the two national teams to enhance their chances of progressing to the quarter-finals.
Bafana match on Sunday
On Sunday, Bafana Bafana will face Nigeria at the Cape Town stadium at 7pm, while Mozambique will play Mali at Athlone stadium at the same time.
The City of Cape Town has announced that they will be temporary road closures and restrictions in Cape Town to accommodate thousands of soccer fans who will be attending the last Group A matches on Sunday.
Road closures around Cape Town Stadium
There will be a full closure in both directions at Fritz Sonnenberg Road between Stephan Way and McDonalds, full road closure at Vlei road between Green Point Cricket Club and Fritz Sonnenberg Road from 6pm on Saturday to 10 pm on Monday, 20 January.
Again, there will be full road closures at both directions on Fritz Sonnenberg between Portswood Road and Granger Bay Boulevard, also from 6pm to 10 pm on Monday.
Road closures around Athlone Stadium
Cross Boulevard road between Klipfontein Road and Springbok road will be closed from 3pm to 9:30 pm. It will be accessed by accreditation only, while residents will get access at Klipfontein Road.
Hickory road between Klipfontein road and Springbok road will also be closed and it will be accessed by accreditation only. However, there would be one-way direction from Klipfontein Road to Springbok Road before kick-off.
No parking will be permitted from midnight to 23:00 on the above roads during the indicated times. Access to and exits from parking garages will be allowed for permit holders only.
Parking
No parking will be permitted on the above roads, as well as the following roads:
- Klipfontein Road between Jan Smuts Drive and Calendula Road
- Calendula Road, except parking for buses only
- Field Crescent and
- Clover Crescent
Tickets
The CHAN 2014 Local Organising Committee announced that match tickets are being sold in three phases:
Phase 2 tickets are available until 18 January 2014, for quarter-finals, semi-final and final match tickets, without knowing which teams finish first and second in each group, discounted by 15%.
Phase 3, the final phase, will run from 19 to 22 January 2014, for the semi-final and final match tickets, after knowing which teams have made it to the top eight for the semi-final and final matches, including the third and fourth play-off matches. - SAnews.gov.za
