AU Commission Chairperson visits Brussels

Pretoria - African Union Commission Chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has met with Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Union Commission to discuss the strategic review of the African Union – European Union partnership.

The two leaders met in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss the principle of how to treat Africa as a single block, not to continue to carve up the continent.

On the issues of peace and security, the two discussed the situation in Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Sudan as well as Somalia.

The European Union has pledged no money for the AFISMA.

The AUC Chairperson reiterated her consistent message about the development of Africa and the women. She called upon people to take women's rights as human development.

After meeting with the President, Dlamini Zuma met with Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy, also to discuss bilateral issues relevant to her portfolio. – SAnews.gov.za
