Pretoria – Cabinet has wished all learners well as they prepare for their year-end examinations.
Minister of Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, at a post-Cabinet briefing in Cape Town on Thursday encouraged all parents and guardians to support learners as they prepare for their exams.
He noted that the exams will be a useful barometer of education interventions such as Annual National Assessments (ANA) and the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS).
Cabinet has also welcomed the assurance by Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, that the country is ready to conduct the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations between 27 October and 28 November 2014.
A total of 688 660 candidates (550 127 full time and 138 533 part time) are registered to write the exams this year.
They will write at 6 740 exam centres, overseen by approximately 65 000 invigilators.
Final preparations are being made for the seven million answer scripts to be collected on the day each exam is written. The scripts will be placed in secure storage and sent to the 117 marking centres across the country.
A total of 41 546 markers have been appointed, and they will start marking on 1 December. – SAnews.gov.za
