Pretoria - International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Nomaindiya Mfeketo will on Tuesday visit Sri Lanka, where representatives of the two countries are expected to sign cooperation agreements.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) on Monday said SA and Sri Lanka will sign agreements on tourism cooperation and cooperation between the South African and Sri Lankan Zoological Gardens.

“It is expected that Deputy Minister Mfeketo will meet her counterpart and other important role players in Sri Lanka during the course of her visit. South Africa has been asked to share with Sri Lanka its experience in terms of reconciliation and nation building,” the department said.

The Deputy Minister will stay in Sri Lanka until 28 February. The visit is also the first follow-up by a South African government delegation since the visit to Sri Lanka in July 2014 by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, as the special envoy of President Zuma to Sri Lanka.

“This is the first high-level visit from South Africa to Sri Lanka since the new administration of President Maithripala Sirisena took over following the Presidential elections held in Sri Lanka on 08 January 2015,” DIRCO said.

The department said the Fifth Partnership Forum between South Africa and Sri Lanka will also take place in Colombo on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a number of South African government departments will be represented. - SAnews.gov.za
