SA sends condolences to DRC

Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma has on behalf of government and the people of South Africa expressed his sincere condolences to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the wake of Tuesday’s train accident.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life and livelihoods. The thoughts of the people of South Africa are with the families and friends of the victims of this tragic accident.

“We wish those injured in the accident a speedy recovery,” said the President in a statement on Thursday.

At least 57 people died when an overloaded passenger train sped off the rails in Katanga, south eastern DRC.

The train was reportedly travelling north from the town of Kamina in the southern province of Katanga to Mwene-Ditu in the diamond-mining province of Kasai-Oriental. – SAnews.gov.za
