Protector Lentsoane's funeral gets underway

Saturday, March 21, 2015

Pretoria - As the late Minister of Public Service and Administration, Collins Chabane, is to be laid to rest today, so will one of his protectors, Lawrence Lentsoane.

Lentsoane’s funeral, which is getting underway in Ga-Marishane, Limpopo, is expected to be addressed by Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe.

In a television interview on Saturday morning, Sekhukhune District Municipality’s Willie Mosomo said that Lentsoane – who passed away alongside Minister Chabane in a car crash on Sunday - was receiving an official police funeral.

“Today we bid final farewell to a man who perished in battle protecting the leadership of this country. The status of the funeral is that of an official police funeral and this means that the South African Police Service is taking full control of what is happening today and we are providing a supporting role,” said Mosomo.

Sergeant Lentsoane died not only alongside Minister Chabane but also alongside Sergeeant Lesiba Sekele along the N1 near Polokwane.

Lentsoane, who was described as a community builder, was also passionate about politics. He had worked with Minister Chabane from 2009 when Chabane was Minister in the Presidency before he became Minister of Public Service and Administration.

Ahead of the funeral service, church groups were performing as police officials came in their numbers to pay their respects to Lentsoane.
