Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will on Wednesday pay a two-day state visit to Mozambique at the invitation of that country’s President Filipe Nyusi.

“The objective of the visit is to consult on issues of mutual interest, in particular on bilateral, regional and continental cooperation,” said the Presidency on Tuesday.

South Africa and Mozambique share strong historical and fraternal ties dating back to the time of the fight against colonialism and apartheid.

The Presidency said South Africa and Mozambique have strong economic ties historically, as evidenced not only in the presence of over 300 companies’ operative in Mozambique, but also in the high trade volumes.

“Mozambique remains South Africa’s top trading partner in Africa. In 2014, South African exports to Mozambique amounted to R32.6 billion, while imports from Mozambique to South Africa totalled R11.3 billion,” said the Presidency.

President Zuma will be accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa. - SAnews.gov.za
