No load shedding, plant maintenance continues

Pretoria - The power system is currently stable and Eskom is able to perform maintenance on its power generating units without load shedding.

However, as a result of increased electricity demand in the evening, the power system is expected to be constrained during the evening peak period between 5pm and 9pm, said Eskom on Tuesday.

As the country is currently experiencing cold weather, the power utility has urged electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm.

In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times.

“We appeal to all our customers to continue to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day but to be aware of the need to save more during the peak periods from 6am to 10am and 5pm to 9pm.”

Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, are urged to switch off non-essential lights and office equipment such as photocopiers and computers after hours. –SAnews.gov.za
