Mosimane to pick team to face USA

Pretoria - Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane will next week Wednesday announce the team which will play the USA on 17 November in the Nelson Mandela Challenge in Cape Town.

The USA, which finished top of Group C during the 2010 FIFA World Cup but fell to Ghana in the round of 16, opted to play Bafana because they wanted to drum up support for its 2018 World Cup bid.

This will be the third clash for the two national teams, but first for Mosimane as Bafana head coach. The US claimed victory twice in their previous matches.

Soccer fans can purchase tickets at a cost of R50 and R100 respectively at Computicket and the gates at Green Point stadium will open at 6.30pm, while kick-off is expected to be 8.30pm.

Last Friday, Mosimane flew to Europe to watch several national team players in action.

On Saturday, he watched his players, defender Siboniso Gaxa, midfielders Daylon Claasen and Lance Davids in action when their team Lierse FC played to a 2-2 all draw against Uepen.

"It is encouraging to see our players taking the field regularly as it keeps them in tip top condition when they come to the national team. This is one of the many visits we will be making to watch our players abroad," said Mosimane of this trip.

"I would have loved to stay and watch more players but I had to come back to prepare for the Nelson Mandela Challenge match against the USA in two weeks time. I will go back and watch more players because it's important to visit these players abroad and not just wait for them to come to Bafana Bafana," he said.
