Tuesday, April 21, 2015

Cape Town - Communications Minister Faith Muthambi will this morning table a five-year Strategic Plan and the Annual Performance Plan (APP) of her departments to the Portfolio Committee on Communications in Parliament.

Department of Communications acting Director-General Ndivhuho Munzhelele said this is the first time Minister Muthambi will present a five-year strategic plan for her two departments and its five entities.

The strategic plan is a culmination of a process by the Minister, wherein she has engaged with all the five entities since she took office with the view to align the entities mandate and the new mandate of the department, as outlined by President Jacob Zuma.

The Department of Communications has identified four strategic goals for the 2015 - 2020 period. These include improved capacity of the department and its entities to deliver; creating a responsive communication policy and regulatory environment; improved government communication and branding and a transformed communication sector.

Minister Muthambi is responsible for the Department of Communications, the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), as well as five entities -- Brand SA, Films and Publications Board (FPB), Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA).

The two departments play significant roles in communicating and publicising government’s programme of action as well as branding South Africa positively at the global level to promote economic development and attract international investors. - SAnews.gov.za
