Malamulele – The body of the late Public Service and Administration Minister, Collins Chabane, has arrived at his home village of Xikundu from Polokwane, on Friday night.

A hearse carrying the late Minister’s body was escorted by members of the South African Police Service and the Blue Light Brigade.

On arrival, members of the MK and the local villagers formed a guard of honour as a sign of respect to welcome the body.

Government ministers, MECs and other senior government officials were part of the entourage that escorted the body.

Initially the mood on the streets had been sombre, but also celebratory and one of thankfulness for a life well spent.

However, when the entourage proceeded into the yard of the house, there was silence as some family members including relatives started crying.

MK members sung struggle songs as the body of the late Minister Chabane proceeded into the yard.

Earlier, a church service by community members was held under a big white marquee to comfort the family. Prayers services were held since Monday.

Minister Chabane passed away on Sunday, 15 March, in a crash on the N1 in Limpopo. Two of his protectors, Sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane, also died in the collision.
