Pretoria - Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi has condemned a shooting that led to the death of a woman and the injury of three people at the Sangweni Taxi Rank in Tembisa on Tuesday morning.

The woman is believed to have been a National Prosecuting Authority staff member.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased as well as her colleagues at the National Prosecuting Authority during this time of grief,” MEC Vadi said.

He wished those who were injured during the shooting a speedy recovery.

“Once again, we call for calm and urge those that might have information to come forward and assist law enforcement agencies,” MEC Vadi said.

The shooting is believed to be a taxi violence related incident between the Midrand Taxi Association and Tembisa/Alexander Taxi Association.

“The numbers of victims of taxi violence are growing on a weekly basis and these criminal attacks must come to an end,” MEC Vadi said.

He called on the leadership of the taxi industry and government officials, particularly from the security cluster, to act decisively to bring the situation under control.

The taxi rank has been closed as investigations are underway. –SAnews.gov.za
