Maintenance work on Usutu water pipeline underway

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Pretoria – The Department of Water and Sanitation says the planned outage on the Usutu water pipeline, which started on Monday, is being well managed.

The department on Wednesday said water tanks have been made available in the affected communities and the outage is set to last until 31 October.

The department said the outage was necessitated by the fact that the pipeline was older than 27 years and was therefore classified as “ageing infrastructure”.

The department implemented this planned water outage to ensure that key infrastructure is maintained to sustain the delivery of raw water to users.

As the work on the pipeline continues in different areas, the department and municipalities will give an update of the areas where tanks will be deployed to service affected water users.

“The department is confident in the capacity of its workforce engaged in this task and the work will be completed within the time targeted,” the department said in a statement.

Dates of water supply interruption to various communities are as follows:

  • Ermelo town (south) - 23 - 28 October
  • Davel town - 20 - 28 October 2014
  • Kriel Town - 20 - 31 October 2014

The department has requested patience and cooperation from the affected communities and for them to use the available water sparingly and optimally.

The department once again apologised for the inconvenience caused. – SAnews.gov.za
