Free State schools join tech revolution

Monday, November 18, 2013

Pretoria – Four schools in the Free State have become the latest to join the techno movement, ensuring them access to improved connectivity with the rest of the world.

The schools -- Kopani Hlanganani Intermediary in Warden, Nomsa Secondary in Dennysville,  Kgarabeng Technical in Viljouenkroon and  Mohlakeng Primary in Villiers -- on Monday each received 40 computers, universal printer, scanner and projector.

The move was part of the Universal Service and Access Agency of South Africa’s drive to ensure universal access to rural areas.

In addition, the agency -- set up to ensure that people living in rural areas are able to connect, speak, explore and study using ICTs -- also provides connectivity to enable pupils and the community at large to access internet for research purposes.

These computers have also been installed with education software to ensure that e-learning is reality in the country.

“Through the school connectivity programme, we can proudly declare that indeed doors of education have been opened,” USAASA Chief Executive Officer Zami Nkosi said. - SAnews.gov.za
