Tuesday, November 22, 2011

Pretoria - Marius Fransman, the Deputy Minister of International Relations, is to represent South Africa at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting this week.

The three-day meeting will take place in Luanda, Angola, from today.

According to the International Relations Department, the council meeting will, among other things, assess SADC's finances. South Africa currently chairs the finance sub-committee, with the National Treasury as the lead department.

The meeting will also focus on the report from the Ministerial Troika that took place in August in Namibia and issues that emanated from the finance committee meeting that took place in Luanda in August 2011 as well as the Finance Sub-committee held in Botswana in July 2011.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Fransman - acting as President Jacob Zuma's special envoy to the mediation efforts in Madagascar - will meet the Troika to deliberate on progress made since the signing of the roadmap.
