Pretoria – Twenty-two unemployed Eastern Cape youth have completed a Film and Television Skills Programme.
The group will be recognised today for their achievement by the Deputy Minister of Communications, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, when she awards them their statements of results, certificates of completion and National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5 certificates.
The Film and Television Production Skills Programme emanates from the 2015 Budget Vote, wherein the Deputy Minister committed to partner with stakeholders to train young people in online video editing.
“The skills programme is aimed at upskilling unemployed youth and graduates with television production skills, thus enabling them to respond to the digital media environment,” the Department of Communication said ahead of the mini-graduation ceremony.
The pilot project is being rolled out in partnership with the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education Training Authority (MICT-SETA) and Atos.
Atos has further committed to place 30% of the learners, who successfully complete the programme, at various companies in the media and ICT sectors. Such placement is currently underway.
Overall, the programme has benefitted 150 leaners and has been rolled out at three centres in the Eastern Cape (70 learners), Western Cape (40) and Gauteng (40). - SAnews.gov.za
