Drop all and read

Friday, September 4, 2015

Pretoria – The Drop-All-And-Read is a national campaign created to promote the importance and value of reading in schools and beyond.

The Department of Basic Education together with the support of religious faith centres will take the department’s campaign to the provinces on Sunday.

Taking part in the visits to six provinces will include the Basic Education Minister, the Deputy Minister, the Director-General and Deputy Directors-General.

In her Budget Vote Speech, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced that the department would rejuvenate its reading initiatives with the re-introduction of the campaign.

The Drop-All-And-Read campaign supports the Early Grade Reading Assessment which was implemented in June 2015.

The campaign is used to provide new Grade R and Grade 1 learners with the "Minister's reading gift" during their first year in school.

It also encourages schools to set time aside for learners, teachers and school management to drop all and read. – SAnews.gov.za
