Pretoria - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday concluded his SADC facilitation visit to Lesotho.

During his visit, Deputy President Ramaphosa paid a courtesy call to his Majesty King Letsie III before holding consultations with Prime Minister, Dr. Tom Thabane, Deputy Prime Minister Mothejoa Metsing, European Union (EU) Ambassador, Dr Michaele Doyle, and members of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Deputy President Ramaphosa has been to Lesotho four times this year to help create dialogue amongst Lesotho’s political role players to address the challenges facing the mountain kingdom.

He has overseen the signing of the Maseru Facilitation Declaration among Lesotho’s main political players.

The Maseru Facilitation Declaration provides for the reconvening of Lesotho’s Parliament by his Majesty King Letsie III, which took place on 17 October.

In terms of the Declaration, the sitting of Parliament had to be limited to discussing the budget and all other related matters regarding the holding of elections.

The Maseru Facilitation Declaration further provides that the National General Elections be held at the end of February 2015 and on a date to be set by King Letsie.
