Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has signed into law the Defence Laws Repeal and Amendment Act, said the Presidency on Monday.

The act seeks to repeal certain obsolete or redundant laws administered by the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, as identified by the South African Law Reform Commission (LRC).

Among the Acts to be repealed are the following: Defence Endowment Property and Account Amendment Act, 1929, Defence Amendment Act, 1954, Defence Special Account Amendment Act, 1981, Civil Defence Amendment Act, 1969.

Cabinet approved the bill in October 2014 for tabling.

The LRC was instructed to conduct an audit of all South African legislation in order to advise on the repeal of obsolete, unnecessary or unconstitutional provisions. – SAnews.gov.za
