Pretoria - The Western Cape Education Department is offering free tuition to candidates registered for the 2012/2013 National Senior Certificate (NSC) supplementary exams to assist them in passing their exams.

A total of 8 148 candidates in the province have registered for the supplementary exams, which are scheduled to commence on 11 February and conclude on 19 March.

MEC for Education, Donald Grant, said the department and Stellenbosch University had set up the system originally to provide extra tuition for matric candidates in the Western Cape.

Expert teachers will provide quality lessons via satellite to candidates who have registered to write the supplementary exams.

“The tuition programme includes broadcasting revision lessons via satellite to 145 schools across the province using its Telematics system. Expert teachers will provide quality lessons via satellite to candidates who have registered to write the supplementary exams,” Grant announced on Thursday.

Candidates will be able to view the broadcasts between 17 February and 28 March from 3pm to 5pm on weekdays and from 2pm to 6pm on Sundays.

The revision lessons will cover seven core subjects including Mathematics, Physical Science, Accounting, Geography, Life Sciences, English First Additional Language and Afrikaans Home Language.

The timetables can be found on the department’s website, as well as the designated school sites.

Grant advised candidates who do not have access to any schools listed can purchase support lessons on DVDs at a nominal price from the department by calling EDUMEDIA at (021) 689-9536.

He encouraged candidates who qualified to write the supplementary examinations to take advantage of the tuition opportunities available to them.

“It is a great revision exercise and allows them to address some of their weaknesses in the previous exam.” – SAnews.gov.za
