Communications Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has encouraged pupils, who are sitting for their 2017 National Senior Certificate (NSC) final examinations, to remain focused on their studies.
“This is the most critical time of the year as this examination concludes 12 years of schooling,” Minister Kubayi-Ngubane said.
She urged parents and guardians to create a supportive environment during this significant period.
Government has sent well wishes to all learners sitting for their 2017 NSC final examinations.
“Government is pleased with measures put in place by both the Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal provincial Departments of Education to safeguard centres to enable learners to write their examinations following the damage caused by the recent storms in the provinces,” a statement issued by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) said.
Government has expressed confidence in the National Department of Basic Education’s catch-up programmes for learners that were affected by protests during the course of the year, as well as other initiatives to assist matriculants yield positive outcomes.
“Education remains an essential tool in building an inclusive society, providing equal opportunities and helping all South Africans to realise their full potential,” Minister Kubayi-Ngubane said.
Government has called on society to continue providing support to learners as they prepare for the examinations.
The role of society is imperative as working together we move South Africa forward.
Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza said he believes the 2017 Grade 12 learners would perform better.
“We hope that the 2017 Grade 12 class will also make us proud as a province. We have full confidence on their abilities and we are rallying behind them during this period in their lives,” Premier Mabuza said.
He said the provincial government has done everything in its power to help them achieve their dreams.
“This is a crucial moment in their lives which will dictate their future, they need not to panic but they should stay focused and concentrate on what they have learnt throughout the year.
“As the ball is now in their court, let them go out and make the best of the opportunity. They are one step closer to achieving their dreams by acquiring good results, only the sky will be limit for them,” Premier Mabuza said.
The Premier reiterated that the provincial government hoped and intended to improve the matric results by 10 percent, from the current 77.1 percent to 87.1 percent. – SAnews.gov.za
