Youth Month 2016

South Africa celebrates the 40th Anniversary of 16 June 1976.

June is celebrated as Youth Month in South Africa, with a specific focus on 16 June, which is also known as Youth Day. Youth Month pays tribute to the school pupils who lost their lives during the 16 June 1976 uprising in Soweto.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Soweto uprisings. The theme for Youth Month is “Youth Moving South Africa Forward”.

President Jacob Zuma will present the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) to a joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament (National Assembly and National Council of Provinces) on 11 February 2016 at 19h00.

The 2016 theme is: “Following up on our commitments to the people”.
