Johannesburg - The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) closed with a dazzling musical performance by African artists at National Stadium outside Soweto on Sunday.
The ceremony, which lasted a little more than 40 minutes, featured a performance by South African superstar and goodwill ambassador for the Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM), Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Chaka Chaka wowed fans with her song, Hearts on Fire.
She was accompanied by 150 children from local townships, who participated in the organisation’s outreach programme and traditional dancers from Lesedi.
Following Chaka Chaka was Kenyan vocalist Muthoni, SA’s Thembisile Ntaka, Nigerian’s D’Banj, local musicians Zonke, Kelly Khumalo and Micasa.
The closing ceremony, which was also attended by FIFA President Sepp Blatter, reflected the continent's urban and contemporary side.
The three-week long Afcon tournament will close with a final match between two African nations, Nigeria and Burkina Faso. - SAnews.gov.za
