SA sends condolences to Myanmar after landslide

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has expressed condolences to the government and people of Myanmar following the devastating landslide which claimed over 100 lives.

A giant amount of dump soil from a jade mine collapsed in Myanmar's northernmost Kachin State on Saturday.

The landslide buried about 80 households in Sankhatku village in Hpakant town when local miners were sleeping near the dump soil.

"Our thoughts are with the people of Myanmar in the aftermath of the landslide disaster at the Kachin jade mine.

“On behalf of the government and people of South Africa, I send my deepest condolences to the government of Myanmar and to everyone affected, particularly to the families and friends of those killed, injured and still missing." - SAnews.gov.za
