Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma’s State visit to Iran, which was announced earlier this week, has been postponed, the Presidency said on Wednesday.

“South Africa is working on new dates with the Islamic Republic of Iran and South Africa also looks forward to the State visit, which will take relations between the two countries to a higher level,” said the high office.

The State visit was going to be the first undertaken by an African leader after the lifting of trade and investment sanctions against Tehran in January.

Today President Zuma leaves for Burundi to assist with addressing the political situation in that country. He is leading an African Union high level delegation of Heads of State, which will hold consultations on the inclusive inter-Burundian dialogue. - SAnews.gov.za
