Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will today present a progress report on infrastructure development to the NEPAD Heads of State and Government on work done by the Presidential Infrastructure Championing Initiative (PICI).

President Zuma, who is in Addis Ababa for the African Union Summit, is the chair of the PICI.

The initiative is part of African countries’ strategy to champion regional and cross-border infrastructure projects in order to attract investment and enhance regional integration.

The Presidency said the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) is central to the continent's transformation efforts as the flagship socio-economic programme of the AU.

“It provides a strategic framework for a continental socio-economic development programme and serves as an integrated programme driver for the African Union,” said the high office.

President Zuma will also attend the Special Summit of the Committee of Participating Heads of State and Government of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM). The summit takes place under the theme ‘Revitalising the APRM to Strengthen Governance in Africa’.

President Zuma is expected to address the summit on the integration of the APRM into the AU. The purpose of the APRM is to improve governance across the continent. The formation of the APRM was an expression of Africa's desire to deepen democracy and run transparent and accountable governments.

President Zuma will also attend the meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, which will discuss extensively the state of peace and security in the continent.
