President Zuma meets with King Mswati III

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Thursday arrived in the Kingdom of Swaziland for talks with King Mswati III on matters relating to the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).

According to the Presidency, President Zuma has already had discussions with Heads of States and Government of Botswana and Namibia on the matter.

“The consultations are a follow up to the discussions held by the SACU Heads of State and Government during the inauguration of the new SACU Headquarters building in Windhoek, Namibia, on 12 November 2015.

“It is expected the discussions will also focus on progress in the implementation of the SACU work programme as adopted by the 2011 SACU Summit,” said the Presidency in a statement.

The SACU, one of the oldest customs union in the world, is 105 years old and consists of five members namely, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.

President Zuma, who is the current Chair of the SACU Summit, is accompanied by Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies, Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan, Minister of State Security David Mahlobo and Luwellyn Landers, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.   

The Presidency added that consultations with Lesotho are ongoing to find a suitable date for the President's visit to Maseru. – SAnews.gov.za
