DRC’s opposition leader Tshisekedi dies
Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has conveyed condolences to the Democratic Republic of the Congo following the passing of main opposition leader Etienne Tshisekedi.
Tshisekedi (84) died on Wednesday evening in Belgium’s capital Brussels.
He was leader of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) Party after his political career took off with the DRC’s independence in 1960, and was a constant and powerful figure in that country’s politics for decades.
President Zuma said he played a key role in the political landscape of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“South Africa share the loss of the Congolese people and stand with them in this time of grief and mourning,” the President said. - SAnews.gov.za
