32 killed in Russian plane crash

Pretoria - An ATR-72 passenger plane carrying 43 people crashed on Monday in Russia's Siberia region, leaving 32 people on board dead, according to the Emergency Situations Ministry.

According to media reports from Russia, some survivors were found but are in critical condition.

The plane went down shortly after it took off from Tyumen, about 2 100 km east of Moscow, toward Surgut, another Siberian city. The plane burst into flames after the crash, but the fire has been extinguished.

Emergency teams have arrived at the scene, and search and rescue efforts are still underway.

The cause of the tragedy is yet to be determined.
